Hangover soup, also known as Korean Haejangguk, is a traditional Korean soup that is said to be a cure for hangovers. The soup is made with various ingredients including beef broth, vegetables, and spices, and is known for its hearty and comforting flavor. Here's a recipe for hangover soup that you can try:

  • 1 lb. beef brisket
  • 10 cups water
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp. doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
  • 1 tbsp. gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 cups napa cabbage, chopped
  • 2 cups Korean radish, chopped
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups cooked rice

  1. In a large pot, add the beef brisket and water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Let the brisket simmer for 1-2 hours until tender.

  2. In a separate pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Cook until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add the cooked onions, garlic, and ginger to the pot with the beef brisket. Add soy sauce, red pepper flakes, doenjang, and gochujang. Simmer for another 30 minutes.

  4. Add chopped napa cabbage, Korean radish, and bean sprouts to the pot. Let simmer for another 15-20 minutes until vegetables are tender.

  5. In a separate pan, scramble 2 eggs and add to the soup.

  6. Serve the soup hot with cooked rice on the side.

This hearty and flavorful soup is a great way to start the day after a night of drinking. The beef brisket provides protein and helps to replenish nutrients, while the vegetables and spices help to detoxify the body and reduce inflammation. Enjoy!
